1st Logo
(1947-1993)

Logo: Just an on screen in-credit disclaimer saying, "An NBC Production" that's superimposed on the credits.
FX: None. It's just superimposed in the credits.
Music/Sounds: Just the finishing of the end title theme from any show playing.
Availability: Rare. Currently seen on Little House on the Prarie on TV Land and Hallmark Channel.
Scare Factor: None.
2nd Logo
(1960-1973?)

Nicknames: "The Snake", "The Cameraman", "NBC Snake"
Logo: On a black background, we see pink, red, and magenta light spots. We see a white line drawing down and zooming back from the top to form the letters "N" and "B". We later see the letter "C" forming from the bottom after the letter "B" was finished forming. As the NBC Snake logo animates, we see a cameraman moving from left to right.
FX: The forming of the name, the man moving the camera.
Music/Sounds: A jazzy horn reindition of the infamous NBC theme or a dramatic fanfare with the announcer voiceover.
Voiceovers Variants: Here are the two variants:
Availability: Rare.
Scare Factor: Depends on the logo:
3rd Logo
(1965-1975)
Nicknames: "The Snake II", "NBC Snake II"
Logo: TBA.
FX: The snake forming.
Music/Sounds: The NBC chimes theme from the 1950s.
Availability: Extinct.
Scare Factor: Medium. Many may be freaked out by the NBC chimes theme and the way the snake is forming.
4th Logo
(1982-1986)

Nicknames: "Cheesy Peacock", "Peacock Blur", "The Proud Peacock"
Logo: On a black background the '80s NBC Peacock (the one with more feathers than the current) turns into place. It is a blur of color as it does so, but clears up as it stops. Under the peacock are the words:
VariantVariants:
FX/Cheesy Factor: The Peacock turning/focusing
Music/Sounds: A light version of the NBC 3-note chimes. In other cases, it uses the show's ending theme, or it's silent.
Availability: Seen on some co-produced shows, such as Punky Brewster and the short-lived cartoon Kissyfur among others. Since the NBC logo appears in reruns of other shows, it would stand to reason that this one would be kept as well. Also, it's seen at the end of the 1985 NBC TV special Let's All Be There with the blue background. Check old tapes for SNL episodes from this era as well.
Scare Factor: Low.
5th Logo
(1986-1996)

Nicknames: "'90s Peacock", "The 1986 Peacock", "The Remake of the Peacock", "The Restored Peacock", "Come Home"
Logo: Against a black background, a red CGI mound appears. As it rises, more rainbow colors are revealed. Then from the top of the screen, the head/neck of the NBC Peacock swings in and the moundspreads to become his feathers. This Peacock is the current version, and it backs away with a color trail around it. Below, the words:
fly in, also with a CGI-like appearance. When they back into their places, they take on a more "solid" color.
Trivia: This logo was based off of the NBC on-air ident and NBC Sports ident, both from 1986.
Variants:
FX: The peacock forming, words zooming out, the CGI colors becoming solid.
Music/Sounds: Just the ending theme of the show. But there was an orchestral NBC theme for the logo on made-for-TV movies.
Availability: Common; still can be seen at the end of Saved By The Bell, Saved by the Bell: The College Years both on TBS and The N and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on TBS, Nick @ Nite, and The N. Also seen on the end of Malibu Fox (not the 1993 film). Also seen on reruns of SNL on E!.
Scare Factor: Low.
6th Logo
(1996-2004)
Nickname: "Color Beams"
Logo: We see a more three-dimensional peacock design (much like #2), which appears facing downward. It then rises up, as the text "NBC STUDIOS" blur in from above the screen and land right under the peacock. Three sets of red and blue beams radiate behind the bird.
Variants:
FX: The rising peacock, the blurring letters lowering.
Music/Sounds: Three arrangements of the NBC 3-note chimes, both featuring bells. The second one sounds more majestic and orchestral, as opposed to the more faster paced 1st one. The third one is a much faster version from the second. The end theme of the show may also play over it.
Availability: Common; seen on shows of the era such as The Pretender, Profiler, Homicide: Life on the Street, Will & Grace, Saturday Night Live, and Malibu Fox when they are reran.
Scare Factor: None.
7th Logo
(1996-2001)
Nickname: "The Flipping Peacock"
Logo: We see the 6-feathered NBC peacock over a revolving set of many colored feathers in the background. The logo appears to be flipping, as if it were a book or something. It then makes a stop at the near end. There's no corporate text at all in this logo.
FX: The flipping of the peacock.
Music/Sounds: Same as above.
Availability: Scarce. Only appeared on pre-2001 episodes of Access Hollywood in syndication.
Scare Factor: Low.
8th Logo
(2000-2004)
Nicknames: "Shining Colors", "The Shimmering Peacock"
Logo: We see the standard NBC Peacock logo emerging from the bottom of the screen. The logo border is in chrome and the feathers are crystal-like and tinted for each of its colors. As the logo rises upward and out, a pair of searchlights bounce light onto the feathers, making a reflection of the vibrant colors outward. The words "NBC STUDIOS", which are also crystallized, appear below the logo.
Variant: The syndication logo was ID'ed as "NBC ENTERPRISES" with "DISTRIBUTED BY" above the peacock.
FX: Not much; there is some "sparkle" from the crystals.
Music/Sounds: There are three music versions.
Availability: Uncommon. Appeared on several shows during the time period. Currently appears on Will & Grace when it is reran on Lifetime, and on Crossing Jordan when it is reran on A&E.
Scare Factor: None.
9th Logo
(Fall 2001-September 19, 2004)
Nickname: "Crystal Feathers"
Logo: Over a black background, we see very huge peacock feathers in transparent glass form hovering over and around the
screen. As they flip around, they reveal the company name "NBC ENTERPRISES", which appears in front of the crystal images. A small purple NBC Peacock logo appears below the name.
Trivia: This logo was based on NBC's on-air look from 2000 to 2002.
FX: The flipping peacock feathers.
Music/Sounds: Same as logo #7.
Availability: Was common in the early 2000's, but has virtually disappeared. However, it appears on reruns of Fear Factor (at last check when FX showed it), and the DVDs of Punky Brewster and Groucho Marx's You Bet Your Life. It was also seen when the now-defunct Trio cable network reran Late Night with David Letterman. It should be intact if that show is ever reran again. Also, it's currently seen on reruns of the syndicated version of Weakest Link on GSN.
Scare Factor: Low; the large feathers can catch you off-guard, but that's about it.
