Background: Nelson Entertainment was the short-lived film company owned by Columbia Pictures. In 1994, after their last release, it merged with Columbia Pictures after ELP Communications was put under Columbia TriStar Television. Currently, most of the Nelson DVD releases are released by MGM (now owned by Sony Corporation and its partners) and Castle Rock Entertainment (owned by TimeWarner).

(1987-1994)
Nelson Entertainment "Obelisk"

Nickname: "Nelson Obelisk"

Logo: On a black background, we see a black obelisk in a rectangle all in white lines. Suddenly, everything turns in color. The background turns blue, the obelisk turns into white everywhere (green in the PAL version), and the background in the rectangle turns into a skyline with clouds moving. In a few seconds, "NELSON" appears on top, and a small word "ENTERTAINMENT" appears on the bottom.

FX: Just very good animation.

Cheesy Factor: A good logo for almost anyone would be this logo, but the clouds can be a little boring.

Music/Sounds: Some tremoloo violin notes ascending, and then a 80's drum theme. In other cases, it's silent.

Availability: Uncommon. It can be found on releases that most of them being co-released by some companies from 1987 to 1994, but the most common release that had this logo was 1987's The Princess Bride.

Scare Factor: None, unless the fanfare startles you.

They obelisk looks like it's flipping the bird, which is another way of saying "middle finger".
