Background:
TriStar Pictures had too a television division in 1987 to produce TV series. When HBO, its last partner, dropped out of the venture, Tri-Star Television was folded into Columbia Pictures Television in December, 1987, but it was reformed in 1991 under Sony Pictures Entertainment. In 1994, TriStar Television co-launched Columbia TriStar Television as a joint venture with Columbia Pictures Television, but in 1999 it was absorbed by CTT (actually Sony Pictures Television) after "Mad About You" and "The Nanny" ended, but kept its name until 2000 on "Malcolm & Eddie" and "Early Edition".

1st Logo
(Early 1987-December 1987)

TriStar Television - CLG Wiki

Nickname: "The Pegasus".

Logo: A
violet triangle, with a golden border and the text:

TRI
STAR

stacked on each other, zooms out and plasters itself on a black background, above which the Pegasus is seen posed as in the movie logo. The text "TELEVISION" appears below.

FX: The triangle zooming out, the "TELEVISION" appearing.

Cheesy Factor: "TELEVISION" looks very tacked/chyroned on, and the end product of the logo looks very poorly filmed.

Music: The outro of the '80s TriStar movie fanfare composed by Dave Grusin.

Availability: Near Extinction. Recently appeared on 2-4 episodes of "My Two Dads" on USA, and wasCan alsobe spottedseen on "Werewolf," but other than that it has been replaced"Dick with the Sony Pictures Television logo or the Columbia TriStar BoxesSpanner of Boredom.P.I."

Scare Factor: Low; can catch you off guard thanks to the zoom out and sudden fanfare.

2nd Logo
(1991-1992)

Note: This logo is based on the theatrical card of TriStar Pictures.

Nicknames: "Dark Marble", "Sparkling Pegasus", "CGI Marble"

Logo: On a dark gray marbled background, the company name (same font as the '80s logo, only in CGI and a light silver color) zooms in the center of the screen:TriStar Television - CLG Wiki

TRI
STAR
TELEVISION

Then the Pegasus (also '80s style) appears sparkling next to "Tri."

FX
: The text zooming out and the sparkling of the Pegasus.

Music
: None, usually had the show's closing theme ending over it. In other cases, it used the outro of the '80s TriStar fanfare.

Availability: Appeared on "The Edge," "Get a Life," and "The Fifth Corner." Can still be seen on Rhino Home Video's "Get a Life" VHS and DVD.

Scare Factor: None.

3rd Logo
(1992-1999)

TriStar Television - CLG Wiki

Note: This logo was designed by
world-class artist Alan Reingold.

Nickname
: "CGI Pegasus".

Logo: We see the white, winged Pegasus posed on the dreamy, sun-lit, cloud-filled sky as in the movie logo. "TRISTAR" appears on the top of the screen in giant bold, white chiseled text, and on the bottom of the screen in smaller text (same font as the '90s CPT logo), "TRISTAR TELEVISION" with the byline "a SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT company."

FX: None, this is a still logo.

Music: Depending on the logo variant:
  • 1992-1993: It used the same music as logo 1.
  • 1993-1997: The music is a 5-note majestic orchestral fanfare with bells composed by Jay Asher.
  • 1997-1999: TBA
  • Another variation was heard on "Annie: A Royal Adventure".
  • In other cases, it used the closing theme of the show.

Availability: It appeared on "Mad About You," "Early Edition," "Malcolm & Eddie," "The Nanny," and "Ned and Stacey" among other shows, but recent broadcasts replace it with the SPT logo. This logo may be spotted on "Annie: A Royal Adventure" on DVD. Outside of the US may have this logo in several countries, but others will have the Sony Pictures Television International logo.

Scare Factor: Low.
