1st Logo
(1968-Early 1970's?)
Yorkshire Television - CLG Wiki
Nickname: "Early Chevron"

Logo: Against a black background, a moving white diamond pattern unfolds from the center of the screen and moves upward and off the screen, leaving behind a Y-shaped chevron and the words "YORKSHIRE TELEVISION" below it. "presents" appears below.

FX: All the animations in the logo.

Music: A horn sounder ending in a five-note fanfare, which is based off the traditional Yorkshire folk song "On Ilkla Moor Baht'at".

Availability: Extinct on television, but this has been preserved by enthusiasts.

Scare Factor: Medium, due to the fanfare.

2nd Logo
(Early 1970's-1983?)
Yorkshire Television - CLG WikiYorkshire Television - CLG WikiYorkshire Television - CLG Wiki
Yorkshire Television - CLG WikiYorkshire Television - CLG WikiYorkshire
Nickname: "Chevron From Hell", "Chevron of Boredom"

Logo: On a black background, a smaller Y-shaped chevron appears with, in white,

YORKSHIRE
TELEVISION
Production

underneath it.

Variants:
  • Productions shown in black and white were shown as you see it, while color programs showed a yellow chevron and under it had "Colour Production" or "In Colour" in red. From 1982 onward, the phrase was shortened to "Production" in yellow.
  • Occasionally, it had no byline.
  • There is a very rare, hard to find variation where the chevron flies into an animated sequence, with sparks, and the numbers 1, 2, and 3. This was seen with the COLOUR PRESENTATION byline. Only seen at the beginniing on the very hard quiz show, "3, 2, 1".

FX/Cheesy Factor:
Just the logo appearing. A little bland, don't you think?

Music: A shortened, 5-note version of the bombastic fanfare used in the previous logo. The 1982 version had a reworked jingle by Chris Gunning.

Availability: See 1st logo.

Scare Factor: Low to high. Very few people have kind memories of this logo thanks to it coming out of nowhere, and for that bombastic fanfare. Familiarity with this logo can reduce the scares. The animated version can startle viewers who have never seen it before.

3rd Logo
(Mid 1970's?)
Yorkshire Television - CLG Wiki
Logo: Against a black BG, we see a series of yellow chevrons zoom out, and a green digital counter readout rapidly counts up. When the counter gets to 6,000,000, it transforms into the white italicized text "serving six million viewers", and the chevrons flash and solidify into one large chevron with the yellow text "Yorkshire Television" below.

FX: It seems to be all done with cel animation.

Music: A series of rapid electronic beeping noises ending with the Yorkshire fanfare.

Availability:
See 1st logo.

Scare Factor: Medium, due to the darkness and the beeping.

5th Logo
(Mid 1980's-1988)
Yorkshire Television - CLG Wiki
Nickname: "Liquid Gold"

Logo: Against a black BG in a sea of liquid gold, a revolving gold 3D chevron emerges from it. The words "YORKSHIRE TELEVISION Production" appear below.

Variant: Around Christmastime, the liquid gold is replaced with snow, and the chevron is capped with snow as it emerges from it.

FX: The liquid gold and the chevron, which are both CGI.

Music: A horn sounder that gets more and more dramatic, which ends with a different arrangement of the Yorkshire fanfare.

Availability:
See 1st logo.

Scare Factor: None.
